'We Will Rock You is a Queen song written by Brian May. Other than the last 30 seconds containing a guitar solo from May, the song is generally set in a cappella form, using only stamping and clapping as a rhythmic beat.

HistoryEdit

The song was written in response to an event which occurred in the 1977 British Tour, when the crowd sang You will never walk alone.

ReceptionEdit

Rolling Stone critic Dave Marsh infamously criticized the song and called Queen a "fascist rock band" in his review of Jazz, despite it not even being on the album. Marsh claimed "This group has come to make it clear exactly who is superior and who is inferior." and that We Will Rock You "is a marching order: you will not rock us, we will rock you. Indeed, Queen may be the first truly fascist rock band."

We Will Rock You is placed in many song lists, ranking #330 in Rolling Stones Greatest Songs of All Time[1], and #146 in RIAA Songs of the Century.
